Combine Lovecraftian mythos with a Stone Age setting and throw it into a strategy game? That’s what Starbreeze Entertainment and developer Walking Tree Games are up to with The Tribe Must Survive, which will release into Early Acccess on Steam on February 22nd.
In The Tribe Must Survive, players are transported to a mystical Stone Age world where survival is not only a test of skill but a journey into the unknown. You must find ways to grow your tribe and protect them from whatever lurks in the shadows around it. That includes the usual strategy game mechanics such as resource collection, building, and technology research/advancement. All of your tribe members have their own personality and will, generally only doing what they want. Fortunately, you can point them in the right direction on how to survive.
And survive they must (as the name of the game implies), as you must safeguard the tribe not only from their internal conflicts and the world itself, but also from the whatever lurks in the darkness itself. You’ll need to ensure to have the resources and foresight to prevent any members of your tribe from falling victim to despair or to the unseen horrors of night itself.
According to the press release, The Tribe Must Survive will spend its first three months in early access, and this time will be used to fine-tune the game balance as well as act on community feedback received during that period. This will lead to “the best possible version of the game” in time for its Early Access exit, along with some additional planned content.
