Fresh off this year’s box office hit Longlegs, star Maika Monroe has been set to star in a fresh take on The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, THR reports this afternoon.
Michelle Garza Cervera, who came onto the scene last year with the incredible horror movie Huesera: The Bone Woman, will direct the new movie for 20th Century Studios.
The Hollywood Reporter details, “The project adapts the 1992 thriller originally distributed by Buena Vista Pictures and directed by Curtis Hanson. Rebecca De Mornay starred as a twisted widow who, distraught over losing her own baby, insinuates herself into a family as their nanny, with the ultimate goal of taking the kids and the husband for herself.”
“The project is seen as a two-hander and sources say that Maika Monroe [was] the first choice for the role of the nanny,” The Hollywood Reporter also notes in today’s report.
Micah Bloomberg wrote the screenplay for the upcoming remake.
Producers include Ted Field, Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca.
