Netflix and Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass”) introduce “The Midnight Club” this Halloween, a series adaptation of Christopher Pike‘s 1994 novel that will also adapt other Pike stories. “The Midnight Club” is set to premiere on October 7, and Empire Online has just shared a new image along with fresh insights from Flanagan.
“One of the big things we assumed was that the younger viewers could handle scares,” Flanagan tells Empire, indicating that the terror of his latest series hasn’t been toned down for a younger audience. He says of Pike’s work in general, “He wrote some pretty advanced stuff for his younger readers, and it was not at all uncommon for his teenage characters to die, pretty shockingly. His books were full of things I found really exciting and thrilling and dark.”
“So I became a bit of an addict,” Flanagan adds.
Flanagan is adapting Pike’s tales alongside Leah Fong (“Once Upon a Time”), and Flanagan directed some of the episodes. But he’s not the only director for the new series.
The full lineup of directors for Netflix’s “Midnight Club” also includes…
- Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour (Black Box)
- Axelle Carolyn (“Bly Manor,” “Creepshow”)
- Viet Nguyen (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”)
- Morgan Beggs (“Once Upon a Time”)
- Michael Fimognari (To All the Boys: Always and Forever)
“At a manor with a mysterious history, the 8 members of the Midnight Club meet each night at midnight to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.”
The cast includes for Mike Flanagan’s series includes Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, William Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, with Zach Gilford and Heather Langenkamp.
Leah Fong will executive produce with Flanagan, along with Julia Bicknell. Attached writers at this time include Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge.
Intrepid Pictures and Trevor Macy are also producing.
