In the year 2022, the moon will come to us.
Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day: Resurgence director Roland Emmerich is back with a new movie, a sci-fi epic titled Moonfall.
Lionsgate has debuted the official teaser trailer this morning, which gives us our first look at Emmerich’s latest vision of worldwide destruction. Hey, it’s what he does best.
Check it out below, and thanks to IGN for debuting this sneak peek.
In Moonfall, “a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it.
“With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Academy Award winner Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believe her.
“These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.”
The cast also includes Josh Gad, Michael Peña, Kelly Yu, Donald Sutherland and Charlie Plummer. Moonfall will be released in US theaters on February 4, 2022.
The script was written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen.
