Scream fans have a lot to celebrate these days with a new installment now available in theaters, but here’s one more: SCREAM: The Musical.
In true Scream meta fashion, SCREAM: The Musical is an upcoming documentary about putting on a stage production of a fan made Scream musical.
Seeing Scream at a young age didn’t just inspire Radio Silence down the path of filmmaking, but producer Sam Pelluzzo too. Pelluzzo, along with business partner Miles Anthony Bouckoms, started their own production company last year, Sam & Miles, and wanted to do something to celebrate and honor the Scream franchise and promote the new film. Pelluzzo came up with the idea to produce a musical version of his favorite movie.
Pelluzo got to work obtaining permission from Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor to stage the play, then hiring all local actors and a musical director to assist with writing the music. He quickly realized he might’ve bit off more than he could chew. Luckily for us, partner Bouckoms insisted on documenting the entire endeavor, resulting in a planned behind the scenes documentary film.
The musical itself is currently navigating through a major setback, but the partners plan for the feature length documentary to be released later this year and submitted to film festivals. If the teaser below is any indication, we’re in for a charming treat.
