Netflix’s “Resident Evil” television series will debut globally on Netflix on July 14, 2022, and the franchise’s first ever live action series goes full throttle on the action-horror mayhem with a brand new trailer thanks to Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022.
The familiar rev of the chainsaw will be music to the ears of longtime fans. While the trailer leans even in harder to the nonstop action and teases of the monsters popularized by the video game franchise, a brand new poster puts the iconic Licker front and center.
Showrunner Andrew Dabb previously shared that the creative team took “all the games and shuffled them together” for the Netflix series, which plays with various elements fans will recognize.
“The all-new series expansion brings the best of the Resident Evil DNA forward – bad-ass heroines, insane creatures (some new/some familiar), a battle for survival and of course, a deep mystery to unravel. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) expands the directions with fresh storytelling, bone-chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle perfect for summer binging.”
The series set in: “2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”
The cast includes:
- Lance Reddick as ALBERT WESKER
- Ella Balinska
- Tamara Smart
- Siena Agudong
- Adeline Rudolph
- Paola Nuñez
- Ahad Raza Mir
- Connor Gossatti
- Turlough Convery
The 8-episodes series written/executive produced by Mary Leah Sutton, with producers also including Robert Kulzer, Oliver Berben, and Martin Moszkowicz of Constantin Film.
The original Capcom Resident Evil was released in 1996, launching an expansive video game and movie franchise that’s still going strong. It’ll be interesting to see exactly how and where Netflix’s new series fits into and remixes that history.
