After last week’s gameplay trailer, NACON and studio Rogue Factor have graced fans with an extended 15-minute gameplay trailer for the upcoming Hell is Us. Presented by Rogue Factor’s Creative Director, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, the trailer provides new information on the game’s key features, from its narrative to its design features and combat system.
The story for Hell is Us takes place in a fictional country called Hadea, a hermit nation ravaged by civil war. Players take on the role of Remi, who was born in this country, and after many years abroad decides to return to his homeland to find answers about his past.
In spite of its Soulslike appearance, the gameplay for Hell is Us should not be considered one when it comes to its combat. Rather, the game is one where combat is designed to offer a “well-seasoned difficulty level without being overly punitive.” Players will have to learn to master a range of different moves and adapt to enemy attacks, relying on a variety of weapons and skills, as well as the help of KAPI, a drone that will prove indispensable during fights, either by distracting opponents or enabling special attacks.
When it comes to the game’s design, Rogue Factor refers to it as “player-plattering”, which encourages exploration and reflection via omitting traditional forms of assistance. As noted before in past coverage, Hell is Us doesn’t feature markers or quest journals detailing exactly what to do. Rather, players must use their curiosity and instincts to discover places that will lead them to explore dungeons. More information on this will be revealed in a video in the future.
Hell is Us is currently in development for release later this year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
