Understandably, Bloober Team’s upcoming Layers of Fear is getting overshadowed by the developer’s other big project in some fans’ eyes. It’s then probably a good idea that Bloober Team has released a new walkthrough video showing off the new mechanics and visual upgrades for Layers of Fear.
Featuring the original Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2, as well as all of the DLCs (including a new chapter entitled “The Final Note” that provides an alternate perspective on the first game’s storyline), the game will also introduce the never-before-told story of The Writer, which aims to tie each entry in the series together.
Bloober Team refers to Layers of Fear as a “tribute” to the fans of the series. “The game has shaped the way in which we strive to make the best horror experiences possible, and we’re hopeful that our community will enjoy what we consider to be the series’ crowning work.”
One such addition to the gameplay is the lantern, which according to Bloober, will “prove essential in confronting the fears that lurk within the game’s story.” This is on top of brand-new core mechanics that aim to seamlessly blend the chapters and stories.
As for the music, composer Arek Reikowski is back again, having worked on previous Bloober titles such as Layers of Fear 2, Observer, and The Medium. “[Reikowski’s] hauntingly beautiful compositions—paired with the enhanced visual fidelity made possible by Unreal—will leave players sitting on the edge of their seats with chills shooting down their spines.”
Layers of Fear is currently set for a June 2023 release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.
