No running. No diving. No lifeguard on duty. No swimming after dark.
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are reteaming again with Universal Pictures, this time for the supernatural thriller Night Swim. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the $30 million-plus opening success of this past weekend’s M3GAN.
Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon will star in Night Swim from writer/director Bryce McGuire, based on McGuire’s 2014 short film.
Details are currently under wraps, but the film is said to be a supernatural thriller centered around “the hidden source of terror found in an iconic backyard swimming pool.” Production is set to begin soon, with Night Swim set for theatrical release on January 19, 2024.
The original short film runs under four minutes long and sees an eerie entity stalk a woman swimming in her suburban backyard pool at night. It leaves plenty of room to expand to feature length while offering no tangible plot clues as to what could be in store for Night Swim. What it does make clear, though, is that Night Swim will emphasize the supernatural.
McGuire previously helmed the 2018 social influencer horror movie Unfollowed. Golden Globe nominee Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) previously starred in the home invasion thriller Bad Samaritan.
Russell (Overlord, We Are What We Are, At the Devil’s Door) will appear next in a starring role in the Apple+ and Legendary Television’s Godzilla and Titans series alongside Kurt Russell.
James Wan and Jason Blum are the producers of the film. As previously reported, their companies Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are in final talks to merge. Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott and Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek are EPs. Alayna Glasthal will be the creative executive overseeing the film for Atomic Monster.
Stay turned for more details on this potential aquatic horror movie as they arrive.
