What might have seemed like an April Fools’ joke has turned out to be the real deal for Nightdive Studios, who have announced a Definitive Edition remaster of Any Channel’s 1995 first-person shooter, PO’ed. No release date has been announced for the remaster, which will arrive for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Originally released for the 3DO, PO’ed was eventually ported to the PlayStation in 1996. One of the many “Doom clones” that popped up in the wake of id Software’s success, PO’ed casts you as Ox, the cook of the military starship U.S.S. Pompous. The ship has been captured by aliens, which have killed all of the crew. You’re a little mad about this, so you grab your frying pan and jetpack to clean house against a monsters ranging from rock-throwing ogres, plasma-shooting robots to walking butts.
As per the usual with Nightdive and their remasters, PO’ed: Definitive Edition will feature updated 4K visuals with antialiasing, increased framerate and redefined controls. There will be a new difficulty mode added for hardcore players, as well as quality-of-life updates, including fixes for bugs that were present in the original version. You can, however, toggle off these fixes, if you so desire.
