We’ve learned the sad news this morning that original Charlie Brown voice actor Peter Robbins has passed away at the age of 65, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter today.
THR reports, “His family told Fox 5 San Diego that the actor died by suicide last week.”
Peter Robbins was a staple in the classic “Charlie Brown” specials from the 1960s, voicing the title character in Halloween classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” as well as Christmas classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The Christmas special was the first time Robbins voiced the iconic and beloved animated character, and he also played Charlie Brown in “Charlie Brown’s All Stars!” “You’re in Love, Charlie Brown,” “He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown,” “It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown,” and the film A Boy Named Charlie Brown in 1969.
Robbins first voiced Charlie Brown when he was just 9 years old.
Among his acting credits, Peter Robbins also appeared in an episode of “The Munsters” in 1964, playing the character Elmer in the episode titled “Rock-a-Bye Munster.”
Robbins also appeared in A Ticklish Affair, “Rawhide,” “Vacation Playhouse,” “The Farmer’s Daughter,” “Love on a Rooftop,” “F Troop,” “Get Smart,” “Blondie,” and “My Three Sons.”
THR notes, “After his time in the limelight, Robbins dealt with addiction issues and had been open about his mental health struggles, including suffering from bipolar disorder.”
