It looks as though those PlayStation 4 owners will have to upgrade if they want to play TeamKill Media’s upcoming cosmic horror game Quantum Error. The developer has announced that they’ve made the decision to cancel the PS4 version of the game, due to the last-gen console version not being comparable to the current-gen PlayStation 5 version of the game.
“Even with the game being made from the beginning for the PlayStation 5, we still had hopes we could make a PlayStation 4 version happen,” explained the developers. However, in evaluating the level of quality the team achieved with Quantum Error, “we have reached the conclusion that there is no way for us to deliver a version on PlayStation 4 that would live up to what the PlayStation 5 is going to deliver.”
TeamKill elaborated, saying that the PlayStation 4 version “would require too much downgrading and changing of assets, lighting, and much more to function, and with the difference in memory and the slower HDD speed, it would be a very different experience that will not compare to the PlayStation 5 version and would not be fair to PlayStation 4 players.”
However, there is some good news to come from this, as the team also confirmed that a PC version of Quantum Error is in development (though it won’t be ready for simultaneous release with the console versions).
In addition to the announcement, the team also released new gameplay footage for Quantum Error, showcasing the environments, enemies and game mechanics (thanks, Gematsu).
Originally scheduled for a 2022 release, Quantum Error is in development for, PC, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, with no updated release date. However, the developer says that they should have a new release “very soon”.
