If you’re looking for more aquatic horror gaming, indie developer Ryan R. Burns looks to have your next fix with The Oily Depths. Inspired by the likes of Iron Lung and Lethal Company, the game is currently available now for wishlisting on Steam.
In this short horror title, you descend into the deep blue in order to locate and drill for oil. Complicating matters are your unscrupulous corporate overlords, who threaten to cut off your oxygen supply if you don’t meet your quota. Then there’s the other issue of your machinery potentially attracting the attention of something lurking below.
As you plumb the depths in, well, The Oily Depths, you must utilize all your gauges, meters, and monitors to navigate, as your visibility is limited within the sub. Locate the oil extraction targets along the sea floor, and gain a mastery of each part of your equipment until “it’s a part of you.” In addition to avoiding whatever it is out there, you’ll also need to deal with potential mishaps in your sub, such as flooding, fires, and that pesky oxygen limit imposed by corporate.
If this tickles your fancy, you can sign-up for Ryan’s newsletter for development info and details of any upcoming betas. Details on a demo and the game’s release will be coming soon.
