It was announced last Halloween that Amazon MGM Studios was developing a television series based on the Poltergeist franchise, and that project is now coming closer to reality.
Variety reports this afternoon that Kalinda Vazquez (“Fear the Walking Dead”) and Robbie Thompson (“Supernatural”) have come on board the upcoming Poltergeist television series as writers, showrunners, and executive producers.
Variety notes in today’s fresh report, “Exact plot details are under wraps, aside from the fact that the show is inspired by the iconic 1982 horror film.”
Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce on behalf of Amblin Television.

The original horror classic, Poltergeist was released in 1982, directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg. JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and the late Heather O’Rourke starred as a family besieged by supernatural terror in their suburban home.
The original hit was followed by Poltergeist II: The Other Side in 1986 and Poltergeist III in 1988, plus a largely forgotten remake in 2015. Then there was the TV series “Poltergeist: The Legacy,” which ran from 1996 to 1999. The series tells the story of the members of a secret society known as the Legacy and their efforts to protect humankind from occult dangers.
Stay tuned for more on this brand new Poltergeist series as we learn it.
