It’s been a while since we last checked in with developer David Szymanski and his Condemned-inspired Butcher’s Creek. Not only do we have a new pre-release gameplay teaser, but also big news that a demo will be coming for Butcher’s Creek on October 11!
Butcher’s Creek is a visceral first person melee horror game from the developer of Dusk and Iron Lung, inspired by classics like Manhunt and Condemned: Criminal Origins. It’s pretty apparent from the teaser what elements of those games are being incorporated into Butcher’s Creek. Plus, we get a nice “Mighty Foot” reference from Duke Nukem 3D, so what’s not to love?
Butcher’s Creek takes place in November of 1993, where you, a troubled loner looking to get your fix for cinematic gore, finds themselves travelling to an abandoned cabin near Butcher’s Creek, Pennsylvania, based on the rumour of authentic snuff films. Unfortunately for you, that rumour is turned on its head, as you end up captured by a gang of sadistic killers. Now your only option is to fight your way out using whatever tools are available.
Those “tools” include hammers, wrenches, axes, pipes, 2x4s, box cutters, and more. And going one step further than the more brutal executions in Manhunt determining your score, you must photograph your deeds in Butcher’s Creek in order to regain health.
Butcher’s Creek is currently slated for a 2024 release on Steam.
