Those of you keen on trying out Affordable Cat’s throwback Survival Horror title Loggerhead since it was revealed back in September 2022 are in luck. The solo developer has released the Loggerhead Prologue Demo to Steam and itch.io, which will provide you with around 20-30 minutes of gameplay.
The Loggerhead Prologue Demo sees you navigating the low-fi VHS aesthetic, reminiscent of classic horror titles. Loggerhead sports other Survival Horror throwbacks, with tank controls, fixed camera angles, limited resources, bad haircuts and of course, cringe-worthy voice acting. Players will choose between the two main characters, Daryl and Tracey, exploring, solving puzzles and facing off against ghoulish adversaries. All the while, the game “fearlessly embraces Australia’s 1980s cultural cringe”, injecting humor and local references for both Australian and global players.
“When I started Loggerhead two years ago, the plan was to build towards the final game. However, a moment of indecision led me to release a demo first, ensuring fans like the direction. The demo invites player feedback, shaping the full version to honour the beloved horror genre”, says Chris Willis, the solo developer behind Affordable Cat.
The game takes place in 1985, where the Australian Government has shut down the Boggarogga Creek campsite in the wake of a series of brutal murders. Despite the warnings and the closure, you still have people visiting the campsite. Two of those people are Daryl and Tracey, who have been invited for a weekend camping trip with some friends. As you might expect, the duo soon find themselves stranded and trapped in a night of horrors.
