Pulp Graphic Adventure ‘Mothmen 1966’ Available Now on Consoles and PC [Trailer]

Those eager to jump into a new graphic adventures title should give LCB Game Studio’s Mothmen 1966 a look. The first entry in the series of interactive adventures called “Pixel Pulps”, and inspired by mid-20th century pulp fiction, Mothmen 1966 is available now on PlayStation 4 (and playable on PS5), Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

From the minds of novelist Nico Saraintaris and artist Fernando Martinez Ruppel, the story for Mothmen 1966 concerns the Leonid Meteor Shower in 1966. A young couple, a gas station owner, and a paranormal investigator are caught up in a terrifying conspiracy taking place at the edge of their reality. Survive eleven ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ chapters while learning the truth behind the ghastly red eyes peering through the surrounding woods.

Created primarily with a focus on narrative, Mothmen 1966‘s eleven chapters also feature puzzles for you to solve, but luckily, characters can step in to either provide hints or outright solve them, so as to avoid taking you out of the experience. You’ll also have to overcome “urgent mini-games” such as fending off hungry coyotes and sniping to repel whatever it is that’s following you. All of this is presented in an 8-bit landscape reminiscent of ‘80s tech like the ZX Spectrum, and accompanied by an otherworldly lo-fi soundtrack.

And if you’re hungry for more, you won’t have to wait long for the next entry. Mothmen 1966 will be followed by the Stephen King-inspired Varney Lake, which is set to arrive this Fall, and the hard-boiled Bahnsen Knights later this year. Mothmen 1966 also includes a demo for Varney Lake.
