Zack Snyder‘s sci-fi epic Rebel Moon is coming soon, and it seems that Netflix is already developing a sequel. We don’t yet even have a release date for the first movie but Variety reports this afternoon that Rebel Moon: Part 2 has received $16.6 million in California tax credits. This is the first we’ve heard of a sequel, and it’s certainly an interesting way to find out.
Variety notes, “The Rebel Moon films are projected to cost $83 million apiece just in “qualified” in-state spending, which excludes “above the line” costs like actor and director salaries.”
In addition to directing, Snyder is also co-writing the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). The film has been referred to as “an epic sci-fi fantasy.”
Here’s the plot synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon…
“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.”
Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Sofia Boutella, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang star.
Anthony Hopkins will play a character named Jimmy, described as “an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.”
Michiel Huisman (“The Haunting of Hill House”), Cary Elwes (Saw), Corey Stoll (“The Strain”), and Alfonso Herrera (“The Exorcist”) most recently joined the ensemble cast.
