Up next from the Universal Monsters brand is Renfield, a comedic horror movie that’s centered on Dracula’s fly-eating henchman. Nicholas Hoult (The Menu) is starring as Renfield, with Nicolas Cage playing Count Dracula. You’ve probably seen the Renfield trailer a handful of times in theaters by now, and this week brings a trio of fresh new TV spots to feast on.
Renfield comes to theaters on April 14, said to be a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.” The first TV spot you’ll find below is particularly good, as it plays up the historical context of the movie. Renfield operates as a sequel to the original Dracula tale, and the TV spot brings Nicolas Cage’s Dracula into the world of the Universal Monsters classic.
The other Renfield TV spots feature more new footage of Cage’s take on the iconic bloodsucker, much more than you’ll find in the main trailer that’s now playing in theaters.
“In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”
Universal’s Renfield is based on an original pitch from “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman. Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, LEGO Batman Movie) directed the movie.
The film co-stars Awkwafina (The Farewell, Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings), Ben Schwartz (Sonic, The Afterparty) and Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Focus).
Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”) wrote the script for Renfield.
