9FingerGames has announced a release date of September 13th for their hellish tower defense game, Heretic’s Fork. The demo of the game is currently available on Steam as part of Steam Strategy Fest until September 4th.
For those that missed it the first time, Heretic’s Fork is a mix of a tower defense game with deckbuilding mechanics. You are the newly appointed Manager of Hell, tasked with managing the rift between Hell and Earth, preventing escape attempts by dwelling heretics. That involves punishing sinners using a state-of-the-art computer system, the eponymous Heretic’s Fork, by building defense towers to hold back the swarms. Seeing as you have to work with all nine circles of Hell, you’ll have to hire demonic subordinates to manage things.
The deck building portion comes in when fortifying your towers and acquiring new weapons. You’ll be using these cards to add new sections to your tower, create demonic garrison units, trigger holy, unholy and hellfire effects, and much more. Successful runs unlock more cards, which you can then purchase from the money you’ve earned from the number of heretics you’ve culled.
To add even more evil to the experience, the immersive atmosphere of the game is amplified by the hauntingly dark music created by Occams Laser, Gates of Chaos and Solis Tolis of Rotting Christ fame.
