Capcom has now announced that their Resident Evil 3 remake has now sold over 5 million units worldwide since its launch in 2020. This comes after they had updated their list of “Platinum Titles” last week,
While five million sales pushes RE3 past the original Resident Evil 2, the is game is just out of the top 10 of Capcom’s list, right behind (you guessed it) Resident Evil Village. Speaking of which, Village crossed the 5 million units sold mark in under a year, while the Resident Evil 2 remake accomplished the same feat in similar fashion back in 2019.
Obviously, the RE3 remake hasn’t wasn’t able to surpass the popularity of the RE2 remake. Along with the emphasis on action over exploration, one of the main criticisms of the remake was its length, which we noted in our review.
It also didn’t help that the game was saddled with the mediocre multiplayer game Resident Evil: Resistance, indicating the brevity of RE3. Nor did it help when Capcom announced that Resident Evil 3 wasn’t going to receive any postlaunch content.
Still, five million in sales is nothing to sneeze at, and Capcom certainly did alright with Village. Nevertheless, The reception to RE3 gave Capcom just cause in their mind to switch developers for the rumoured Resident Evil 4 remake.
Currently, we’re still waiting on an announcement for DLC for Village, as well as the repeatedly-delayed Resident Evil Re:Verse, which is due out later this year.
