Now available at home, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City isn’t exactly a home run but it’s a movie that does at least live up to its promise, rebooting the movie franchise into something that feels a whole lot more like the original games. And that means horror is at the forefront of the movie, which is loaded with video game creatures and bloody gore.
You can rent Welcome to Raccoon City for $19.99 through your favorite VOD platform now, and this week we’ve got some behind the scenes creature concepts from Applied Arts FX Studio.
The team writes on Instagram (@aafxstudio), “Resident Evil – lots of concept stuff that was in the works at various times for an earlier version of the script, and some alternative ideas.”
The caption for the series of photos you’ll find below continues, “Hardly touches on the design work @damalto did with us on the show over several months last year.”
These concept designs show off alternate looks for characters who appeared in the movie, including Lisa Trevor, as well as monsters that ultimately did not. Is that Mr. X we see?!
You’ll also find an alternate design for the original game’s iconic “turn-around zombie” below…
Meagan wrote in her review of Welcome to Raccoon City, “Johannes Roberts succeeds in creating a far more faithful, horror-driven Resident Evil movie. This adaptation makes strange choices with its characters and can be rough around the edges, but it offers a compelling lead and succeeds in suspense-filled sequences. Roberts keeps things moving briskly.”
