What began as another Syfy creature feature has now become an important piece of pop culture, taking over the world with multiple sequels that came in its wake.
In Sharknado: Feeding Frenzy, filmmaker Jeremy Wagener revisits the 2013 cult so-bad-it’s-good horror movie Sharknado, directed by Anthony C. Ferrante for the Syfy Channel.
In Sharknado, which spawned several sequels and is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, when a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, nature’s deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace.
“Sharknado: Feeding Frenzy takes a ride into the Sharknado frenzy with a film geared to entertain while exploring how a Syfy creature feature become an unimaginable franchise and surprise phenomenon capturing the zeitgeist.
“With such a ridiculous name and premise, the low-budget movie about a shark-filled tornado destroying Los Angeles, Sharknado, was considered career suicide.
“However, when the Sharknado film finally premiered on SyFy, a social media conversation exploded, and news outlets ran with it. As a result, the film, cast and filmmakers were catapulted into the pop culture stratosphere! Why? How? Can filmmakers create lightning in a bottle again and again?” (Amazon)
