The Scream franchise is officially back, it’s safe to say, with the new movie already rocketing past Scream 4‘s entire domestic total in just two weeks. So what’s next? Scream 6?
With new characters put into the spotlight in the new movie and legacy characters still alive to see their stories continue, it would seem there’s a whole lot of potential for Scream to spawn a whole new franchise of its own, and it’s a potential future that filmmakers Radio Silence are very much envisioning. In fact, they’ve already got ideas brewing for a potential Scream 6.
The filmmaking team this time around includes directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, as well as executive producer Chad Villella, the three members of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S, Southbound). Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gillet explains that the team would happily reunite in a heartbeat, if given the chance.
Gillet tells EW, “We know that Guy and Jamie have a really great idea for where this saga goes, and I can say that we had such an amazing time making this one. From start to finish, it was just like a dream come true, and if they’d have us back, we’d do it in a heartbeat.”
How does Neve Campbell feel about coming back for Scream 6 and beyond? Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter just last week, “It’s down to the strength of the story. I wouldn’t want to do it unless the script is good. It would be hard. (Laughs.) But these guys did really well on this one, so I’m curious to see what would come next. So we’ll see.”
As Brad noted earlier this week, the new movie “will cross the $100M barrier and a sequel will undoubtedly get underway in the coming year.” So stay tuned for more as we learn it…
