Announced last month, Paramount and Spyglass have ordered up Scream 6 in the direct wake of Scream‘s box office success, and we now have a release date for the next sequel.
Scream 6 will slash into theaters on March 31, 2023!
No plot details are available at this time, but without spoiling anything about this year’s movie, there are still plenty of characters alive to do battle with the next Ghostface…
One of those characters is Gale Weathers, who has appeared in every Scream movie to date. And Courteney Cox confirmed this week that she’s signed on for Scream 6!
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct the franchise’s next installment. James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick are also back to write Scream 6.
Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.
Released in theaters on January 14, this year’s new Scream movie has scared up just under $140 million at the worldwide box office – $80 million of that made domestically. For the sake of comparison, Scream 4 made less than $100 million worldwide back in 2011, with Radio Silence’s franchise relaunch proving that Ghostface’s knife is as sharp as ever.
Wes Craven’s original sequel to Scream, 1997’s Scream 2, was released one year after the first movie, so it’s interesting to see this new era continuing in much the same fashion.
We’ll report more on Scream 6 as we learn it. Will Neve Campbell be back? Will any of the other franchise players be returning? We expect to learn much more very soon.
If you haven’t yet seen it, Scream 2022 – which is technically Scream 5, of course – is now streaming on Paramount+. You can also rent or buy the film digitally through other platforms.
