After a massive 4-day opening, the newest Scream dropped 58.6% at the box office in its second weekend, but still managed to add another $12.40M here in the States. With zero new competition in its third weekend, the fifth film in the franchise dropped only 40% and managed to carve out another $7.35M for a domestic total of $62.13M.
If you include this weekend’s international gross of $6.5M ($44.1M total), Scream has just surpassed $100M worldwide and that of Wes Craven’s Scream 4 (2011), which ended its run at $97M.
As I previously noted, a sequel will undoubtedly get underway in the coming year.
For those who have had a chance to check out the fifth installment, we’ve been doing some post-release deep-dive editorials with the help of the filmmakers to reveal all of the Easter eggs and secrets behind Scream. Click here to start digging in.
The filmmaking team this time around includes directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, as well as executive producer Chad Villella, the three members of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S, Southbound). In the new movie…
“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
