Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for breaking the news this afternoon.
Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, Sharknado originally debuted on SYFY on July 11, 2013. With a wacky premise involving sharks falling from the skies, Sharknado proved to be a viral hit on social media, paving the way for four sequels released between 2014 and 2017.
Tara Reid, Ian Ziering, and the late John Heard starred in the original Sharknado.
In the 2013 cult hit, “When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, nature’s deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace.”
