Other than the release date shift back in March, we haven’t had much to go on with Endnight’s Sons of The Forest. That was until Endnight flipped the switch, and now Sons of The Forest has its Steam page activated, complete with more details about the sequel to the 2014 original.
The release date for Sons of The Forest is still set for October 2022, but the game’s story sees you trapped on a cannibal-infested island after being sent to find a missing billionaire. As before, you’ll be relying heavily on survival skills, alone or with friends, to survive. Survival is the name of the game, as is the interaction. You’ll be breaking sticks to make fires, and using an axe to cut out windows and floors.
The Steam page notes that Sons of The Forest will feature changing seasons (hence why we saw screenshots of the game in Winter). As such, you’ll have to be smart about how you survive, collecting food during the Spring and Summer to make it through the Winter and the like. Of course, you’re not the only one having to survive, so expect a visitor looking for a meal.
As expected, you’ll be able to decide “what you do, where to go and how best to survive”, with no NPC’s “barking orders at you or giving you missions”. You’ll still have to contend with “a range of mutated creatures”, some of whom close to being human, while others are “like nothing you have ever seen before”. Luckily, there’s a variety of weapons available for you to defend yourself against them.
No word yet on if Sons of The Forest will be making its way to consoles.
