Netflix’s smash hit series “Squid Game” spawned its own reality competition spinoff series with “Squid Game: The Challenge” last month, and another season is on the way.
Netflix announced this morning that Season 2 has been ordered, with the streamer describing the series as “the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix.”
The second season of the main “Squid Game” series is also coming soon.
The 10-episode competition series, meanwhile, sees 456 real players enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of $4.56 million. Of particular note, “Squid Game: The Challenge” will present the largest cast and prize money in a reality competition series.
In the series, “456 real players will enter the competition show in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million. As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”
“Squid Game: The Challenge” comes courtesy of Studio Lambert & The Garden.
Executive Producers include Nicola Brown (The Garden), Tim Harcourt (Studio Lambert), John Hay (The Garden), Toni Ireland (Studio Lambert), Anna Kidd, Stephen Lambert (Studio Lambert), Louise Peet, Nia Yemoh (Studio Lambert), and Stephen Yemoh (Studio Lambert).
“Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series. “Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”
