As much as I adore Arkane’s Deathloop (and I really, really do adore it), I’m currently hankering for something a lot closer to the studio’s previous game, Dishonored 2. With Four Circle Interactive’s new game Abermore, I might have found just what I was looking for.
Abermore is an immersive sim-style RPG in the vein of Thief and Dishonored. That’s not to say it doesn’t throw in some delectable ideas of its own. Players take on the mantle of ‘the Unhanged Man’ a legendary master thief out to perform the heist of the century by robbing the rich of the fictional neo-Edwardian city of Abermore. The game gives 18 days in the lead up to the heist itself to find the right crew, discover side stories, rob homes, and generally prepare for the big score.
Interestingly, every run in Abermore is procedural, so each attempt is different in some way. Find the right people and you might just make the final heist go a lot smoother. Also helping you complete the job is a selection of mystical cards that provide special abilities such as teleportation and turning foes into stone.
Before Abermore, Four Circle is best known for hardcore sidescroller 10 Second Ninja X. That game manages to balance puzzling and intense action superbly in 10-second bursts. So it will be exciting to see how Abermore blends a procedural structure with immersive sim traits.
The wait to plan your big heist isn’t far away. Players can score big on March 29, when Abermore hits Steam. You can wishlist it right now.
