Puppet Combo are spreading the holiday horror cheer this month with the announcement that their 2021 stealth slasher Christmas Massacre is heading to PlayStation consoles on November 17th for $11.99 USD. Previously released on Steam, those of you who enjoyed Hotline Miami and Manhunt will no doubt be at home with this reverse horror experience.
As you might expect from Puppet Combo, Christmas Massacre makes use of those chunky, low-poly graphics we all know and love, and combines it with the love of 80s slashers for a wholly unique experience. The story of Christmas Massacre simple: In 1959, on a fateful Christmas Day, young Larry’s hopes of attending the Christmas party at his Catholic school are dashed by the head nun’s refusal. Consumed by rage, he takes up a knife and embarks on a brutal spree, leaving behind a trail of carnage and a wounded nun.
Fast forward to December 23, 1979. Larry, now living alone, decorates his home for Christmas. Suddenly, his Christmas tree comes to life, commanding Larry to exact vengeance upon the naughty. Larry dons a sinister Santa costume and, with his trusty van, sets out on a merciless mission to avenge his past. As the body count rises, Larry’s sanity teeters on the brink, leaving players to question the reality of his actions and the eerie guidance of his bloodthirsty Christmas tree.
That rampaging involves you sneaking, stalking and killing without being seen to complete each level. You’ve got a variety of weapons to complete your task, along with being able to play in first and third person perspectives. Plus, you’ll be able to make use of multiple masks and costumes.
And for those who didn’t check out the game when it was released on Steam, read up on our thoughts on that release.
