Bloody Disgusting’s The Losers’ Club Podcast leveled up this week when they interviewed Stephen King himself for the very first time, an hour-long chat with the master that we encourage all King fans to listen to this Memorial Day Weekend. King discusses topics including the roots behind this September’s Fairy Tale, the status of his third book with Peter Straub, and a new novella with venomous fangs in a familiar story. He also talks about transgressive horror, scatalogical humor, bar chords, aging friendships, corgis, and why he hasn’t gone soft.

What exactly is this “new novella with venomous fangs in a familiar story”? That would be a story Stephen King just wrote titled Rattlesnakes, which he calls a “sequel” to a past classic!
King tells The Losers’ Club, “I just wrote a long story called Rattlesnakes. And it involves, at one part, twins who are only four years old… falling into a rattlesnake pit. And the snakes get ’em. It’s a terrible scene.” King continues, teasing the connection to an iconic story from his past, “This novella that I’ve just written, Rattlesnakes… is actually a sequel to Cujo.”
Cujo is of course the 1981 horror novel written by King, which subsequently became a film in 1983. Set in Castle Rock, Maine, the story centers on a rabid Saint Bernard who torments a mother and her young son, the dog becoming a murderous monster after contracting rabies from a bat bite. So just how is Rattlesnake connected to that iconic horror tale?
We don’t have any further info on Rattlesnakes at this time, so it’s hard to tell if it’s more a “spiritual” sequel to Cujo or a direct follow-up. But our interest, to say the least, is piqued.
