The long wait for the return of “Stranger Things” is finally almost over, with “Stranger Things 4” coming to Netflix on May 27 with “Volume One” of the brand new season.
“Stranger Things 4” is being broken up in two parts, with “Volume 2” following on July 1st, 2022. Beyond that, we know that “Stranger Things” is ending with Season 5.
So why are we only getting two more seasons? Speaking with Screen Rant, producer Shawn Levy explains the decision behind ending “Stranger Things” with five total seasons.
“Well, we never wanted to run on fumes and we wanted to only tell as much story as the brothers saw and feel with clarity,” Levy tells Screen Rant, echoing similar comments made by creators Matt and Ross Duffer over the years. “So it’s been clear for a while that they know exactly where we’re headed and this is the arc.”
Levy adds, “We wouldn’t want to stick around for one moment beyond that vision and the clarity of that voice. So rather than focusing on that sad day that happens who knows when, the end of season five, I’ll just once again reaffirm what I’ve told everyone, which is it has been a long-ass wait for season four. But I swear to God, the world will realize it’s worth it.”
The good news? “Stranger Things 4” is essentially going to be a massive double season, so we’re actually in store for more brand new episodes than it may seem like we have left…
“Stranger Things 4” is said to be “twice the length” of previous seasons, so it isn’t just one season broken up into two parts. Essentially, we’re getting almost two full seasons in one!
What we know of Season 4 thus far is that Hopper is still alive, “imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other.”
“Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything….”
“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more,” the Duffer Brothers had said back in February of last year.
Horror icon Robert Englund is playing Victor Creel in Season 4, a disturbed man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.
