It might seem anticlimactic for some that Takeda is the final Kombat Pack character for Mortal Kombat 1, but for the rest of us, the return of the bladed whips is a welcome sight. Case in point: the new gameplay trailer for Takeda makes good use of those whips, along with some explosive kunai and a painful-looking Fatality.
Takeda will be joining the main roster on July 23 as part of the early access period for Kombat Pack owners, followed by wide availability on July 30. Additionally, Ferra (sans Torr) will be arriving on July 23 as a new DLC Kameo Fighter, offering up a range of support moves.
This version of Takeda is now the cousin of Kenshi, and was raised a Yakuza. However, unlike Kenshi, Takeda enjoyed this lifestyle. That’s why he was chosen to end Kenshi’s crusade against his masters. The fight mortally wounded Takeda, but Kenshi rushed him to the nearest help: the Shirai Ryu. After healing, Takeda grew to appreciate the Shirai Ryu’s selfless commitment to Earthrealm. Now, Takeda has sworn to rip up Earthrealm’s underworld by the roots, but he soon learns they are stronger and more tangled than he ever thought possible.
As a treat for attendees of the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) fighting game tournament in Las Vegas from July 19-21, Takeda and Ferra will be playable for the first time ahead of their release. This opportunity will be available exclusively for event attendees and located within the Mortal Kombat 1 booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall.
Meanwhile, we still have those rumours regarding the next round of guest characters, but NetherRealm and WB are keeping it quiet (for now).
Mortal Kombat 1 is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The Kombat Pack can be purchased as part of the Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition, or can be purchased separately.
