The box office success of the A24-distributed Talk to Me is extremely good news for brothers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, whose popular YouTube channel “RackaRacka” is now paving the way for a successful career as feature filmmakers. What’s next for the Philippou brothers? Well, it sounds like it may be something they already shot.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter about all things Talk to Me this week, the brothers reveal that they’ve already filmed some kind of prequel to the events of Talk to Me.
More specifically, they shot something that fleshes out the story of Duckett, a previous victim of the film’s supernatural hand whose horrifying fate was revealed in the opening scene.
Danny Philippou explains to the outlet, “We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that.”
It’s likely that the Philippou brothers are referring to some kind of short rather than another feature, but it’s exciting nonetheless to hear that there’s more to the world of Talk to Me.
“But also while writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film,” Danny continues. “So there’s so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and yeah, if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”
Michael adds, “We have a lot of original stories that we want to tell, but the Talk to Me stuff is exciting to us, too. So the idea of a sequel, we wouldn’t be opposed to it.”
Will we ever see the prequel footage? And will A24 be ordering up a Talk to Me sequel? That all remains to be seen. But we’ll of course keep you updated as we learn more.
