In the direct wake of the brand new Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel, now streaming only on Netflix, Netflix has announced today that more Leatherface content is soon on the way.
No, it’s not another new movie – not yet, at least – but we’ve learned that the 2013 sequel Texas Chainsaw 3D will be slicing its way onto Netflix on March 1st, 2022.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been just about ten years since Texas Chainsaw 3D was released in theaters, a sequel that picks up right where the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre left off. Much like Netflix’s brand new 2022 movie, Texas Chainsaw 3D was similarly a “legacy sequel” to the original classic, continuing the story of the original incarnation of Leatherface.
In Texas Chainsaw 3D, directed by John Luessenhop and starring Alexandra Daddario, “A young woman travels to Texas to collect an inheritance; little does she know that an encounter with a chainsaw-wielding killer (hint: he wears a human skin mask) is part of the reward.”
In addition to the upcoming Texas Chainsaw 3D and the now streaming Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and that film’s prequel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, are both currently streaming on Netflix. In other words, Netflix truly is the new home for Leatherface and his wacky, murderous family.
So will this year’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre be spawning a sequel any time soon? For what it’s worth, director David Blue Garcia is interested, and he’s already got some ideas…
