Jermaine Fowler, fresh off his comedic turn as Clifton in this year’s horror comedy The Blackening, is set to return to the genre once more in an upcoming psychological thriller. Deadline reports that Fowler just wrapped production on the genre-bending thriller from Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink (“Santa Clarita Diet”).
The untitled thriller “follows Allen Perkins (Fowler) through various twists and turns on a descent into darkness as he hosts his old college pals for the weekend.”
Pink called this project, “One of the coolest films I have ever had the opportunity to direct in my career.”
Further quotes to the outlet tease more than just psychological thrills ahead; the mysterious thriller also appears to dabble in science fiction and the supernatural.
“I’m grateful for the extraordinary cast that came together around a phenomenal script that explores themes residing in the darker and possibly supernatural corners of the human experience,” Pink told Deadline. “This film blurs the lines between thriller, science fiction, and comedy elements in a way that will keep audiences surprised and at times, downright terrified!”
Written by Sam Johnson and Connor Diedrich, the psychological thriller also stars James Morosini (I Love My Dad), Pauline Chalamet (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Edy Modica (Jury Duty), Rob Yang (Succession), and Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso).
The project was shot under a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement. Producers included Josh Jason and Molly Gilula of Hurley/Pickle Productions, along with Molly Conners of Phiphen, AJ Bourscheid & Austin Lantero of Range Media Partners, and Chalamet, Rachel Walden, and Luca Balser of Gummy Films.
While Fowler previously showcased his comedic talents in features including Coming 2 America, Sorry to Bother You, and The Blackening, expect to see a more serious turn from the performer in the upcoming Faces of Death reboot.
This recently wrapped thriller is currently untitled, so stay tuned for more details on this project as they arrive.
