Fresh off the film’s premiere at SXSW, The Cellar (read Trace’s review) is now gearing up for release from RLJE Films and Shudder, with the official trailer for the Elisha Cuthbert-starring horror movie debuting this afternoon. The Cellar comes to theaters and Shudder on April 15.
In the film, written and directed by Brendan Muldowney…
“Keira Woods’ (Elisha Cuthbert) daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house. She soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.”
Eoin Macken, Abby Fitz and Dylan Fitzmaurice-Brady also star.
Trace wrote in his SXSW review, “It’s wonderful to see Elisha Cuthbert back in the genre and Muldowney manages to eke out a few genuine chills in the third act, but it’s not enough to merit a strong recommendation. It’s a competently made film, but in an age where people have endless viewing options from streaming services, competent just doesn’t cut it anymore.”
Watch the trailer for Elisha Cuthbert’s return to horror below. In addition to House of Wax, Cuthbert had more recently starred in the horror movie Captivity, released in 2007.
