Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve,” Free Guy) will next be starring in an upcoming apocalyptic thriller titled The End We Start From, and Deadline shares a first-look image this afternoon.
Additionally, Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Mark Strong (1917, Kingsman) have signed on to co-star in the film.
Joel Fry (Cruella, Yesterday), Gina McKee (My Policeman, Line Of Duty) and Nina Sosanya (Screw, His Dark Materials) have also joined the cast of The End We Start From.
Mahalia Belo (The Long Song) will direct from a script by Alice Birch (“Succession”).
Here’s the plot synopsis for the film: “Set amid an environmental crisis that sees London submerged by flood waters, the feminist survival story focuses on a young family torn apart in the chaos. Jodie Comer will play a mother who with her new-born child tries to find a way home, navigating the most challenging and apocalyptic start to motherhood.”
The End We Start From is based on Megan Hunter‘s novel.
Producers Leah Clarke, Liza Marshall and Adam Ackland said in a statement shared by Deadline this afternoon, “The End We Start From is very close to our hearts. Megan’s heart-wrenching novel, and Alice’s wonderful adaptation, present a story about motherhood, separation, social and environmental upheaval, and those primal instincts in us which draw moments of joy and inspiration out of the chaos. We are incredibly excited to have Mahalia and Jodie lead this talented creative team in making what we know will be a resonant, riveting film.“
Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) is also on board as Executive Producer.
