20th Century Studios released the official trailer for The First Omen this morning, a brand new prequel to the classic horror franchise that’s coming to theaters on April 5, 2024.
In the film, “When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.”
Today’s first-look trailer ran only a minute long and featured very little footage from the upcoming movie, giving us only a small taste of the prequel storyline. All of the footage was eerily presented in reverse – the new movie is, after all, going back to the beginning – giving us glimpses of the new characters played by Nell Tiger Free, Ralph Ineson and Bill Nighy.
What you may not have noticed is that the final seconds of The First Omen‘s trailer feature a short soundbite that’s also played in reverse. This was noticed by @BreaktheProblem over on Twitter, who cracked the code and reversed the soundbite back to normal. What he found was a hidden Easter Egg in the trailer, one that calls back to the original classic.
The soundbite is from the moment in Richard Donner’s The Omen (1976) when Damien’s nanny hangs herself and utters the iconic phrase: “Look at me, Damien. It’s all for you.”
Check out @BreaktheProblem’s tweet below to hear The First Omen‘s hidden trailer soundbite un-reversed, along with the clip from the 1976 horror classic that it was taken from.
The new movie is directed by Arkasha Stevenson, based on characters created by David Seltzer (“The Omen”), with a story by Ben Jacoby (“Bleed”) and a screenplay by Tim Smith & Arkasha Stevenson and Keith Thomas (Firestarter).
The original 1976 classic, which starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Harvey Stephens, followed an American ambassador who believes his five-year-old son is the Antichrist.
