The first trailer for the Dracula-inspired horror movie The Invitation (formerly titled The Bride) was attached to The Black Phone in theaters over the weekend, and this morning Screen Gems has brought the trailer online. Jessica M. Thompson directed the upcoming horror movie for Sony’s Screen Gems, the film being described as “a contemporary horror thriller.”
IGN debuted the trailer today, and you can sink your teeth in below.
The Invitation is said to “tell the story of a young woman who is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot.” The film will release on August 26, 2022.
That “gothic conspiracy,” it turns out, involves blood-drinking, with Evie drawn into a world of vampires. The trailer for The Invitation doesn’t quite spill the beans that this is Dracula we’re dealing with here, but wait until the end for a mention of Jonathan Harker, a character synonymous with the Count. This is very much a Dracula tale, only with a fresh new twist to it.

Director Jessica M. Thompson tells IGN, “Don’t worry, as contemporary as the story is, there are still plenty of Easter Eggs in there for the hardcore fans. I’m curious to see if anyone will find them all…”
Here’s the full plot synopsis: “After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host.
“But Evie is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.”
Nathalie Emmanuel (“Game of Thrones”), Thomas Doherty (“Gossip Girl”), Hugh Skinner, Sean Pertwee, Courtney Taylor, Alana Boden, and Stephanie Corneliussen star.
Blair Butler wrote the original script, with revisions by Jessica M. Thompson.
In addition to The Invitation, several other Dracula-based or Dracula-inspired films are coming soon, including Renfield, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and a film from Chloé Zhao.
