‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ – Oogie Boogie Voice Actor Ken Page Has Passed Away

Actor and singer Ken Page, best known for playing Oogie Boogie in Henry Selick and Tim Burton’s classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, has sadly passed away at the age of 70.

In addition to voicing iconic character Oogie Boogie in the 1993 movie, Ken Page also went on to voice the character for all subsequent spinoff projects including the video games The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King and The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge, and he also voiced the character for the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise.

Other roles throughout Ken Page’s career include 1989’s All Dogs Go to Heaven, wherein he voiced King Gator, as well as “Family Matters,” The Kid Who Loved Christmas, “Adventures in Wonderland,” Cats (1998), “Charmed,” Dreamgirls, and Haunted Mansion Holiday.

Off screen, Ken Page appeared on stage in plays including Ain’t Misbehavin’, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, The Wiz, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Cats. Page’s IMDb bio states, “The king-sized singer made his Broadway debut in 1976 playing Nicely-Nicely Johnson in an all-black revival of Guys and Dolls, for which he won a Theatre World Award.”

The Nightmare Before Christmas composer Danny Elfman tweets, “I’m still stunned by last night’s terrible news. Ken Page died suddenly. He was the one and only Oggie Boogie Man. He was simply one of the best, most generous souls I know. Full of life and overflowing with joy. Talented and then some. Ken, my friend, you will be deeply missed.”

Nightmare Before Christmas co-star Chris Sarandon writes on Twitter, “We’ve lost a giant of a man: actor, singer, director, human. Goodbye with great sadness to my dear friend, Ken.”
