For many, the first introduction to the world and characters of Ghostbusters came not from the live-action movies but rather from the animated show it spawned. We’re talking about the ’80s animated series “The Real Ghostbusters”, which continued the adventures of the motley crew and the ghost, Slimer.
The series, which ran from September 13, 1986, to October 5, 1991, follows the continuing adventures of the four Ghostbusters (Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore), their secretary Janine, their accountant Louis, and their mascot Slimer, as they chase and capture rogue spirits around New York and various other areas of the world. The series was an authentic sequel to the Ghostbusters films, and was eventually continued in “The Extreme Ghostbusters.”
“The Real Ghostbusters” celebrated many years on Netflix before the episodes were eventually pulled. Thankfully, they’ve made their way back onto streaming thanks to Amazon’s Prime Video. That’s right, Amazon subscribers now have access to over 100 episodes mixed into 10 volumes.
While it’s, unfortunately, missing a handful of later episodes, it’s exciting to finally have one of the greatest animated series of all time back on a streaming service.
