Just two episodes remain in “Stranger Things 4,” but you’ll have to wait until July 1 to stream them on Netflix. Why has a nine-episode season been split into a 7-part “Volume 1” and a 2-part “Volume II,” you may be wondering? Well, it’s probably because the final two episodes of the season are absolutely massive, packed with over 3 new hours of “Stranger Things”!
The official runtime for the “Stranger Things 4” finale? 2 hours, 19 minutes!
The Duffer Brothers explain to Empire this week, “The final episode has more FX shots than the entirety of Season 3. There’s an hour-long chunk in the final episode that just doesn’t stop.
“It’s the most complicated thing we’ve ever attempted to do. [It’s] all tension and dread, with a run-time that would be long even for a movie. Then – well, everything goes to hell…”

Meagan Navarro writes in her “Volume 1” review for BD, “As of now, season four zips along through thrilling set pieces and wildly different story arcs at a rapid enough clip to keep you entertained and invested, even as you begin to feel the immense weight of its ever-growing mythology and repeating patterns.” Stay tuned for Meagan’s “Volume 2” thoughts real soon.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Season 4…
“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.
“In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
