Coming soon from Universal Pictures, Nintendo, and Illumination, the official teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie just debuted this afternoon, a brand new animated feature.
The 2-minute teaser trailer mostly focuses on the iconic villain Bowser, voiced by Jack Black, while giving us a small appearance from Mario himself, voiced by Chris Pratt.
At the tail end of the trailer, Luigi (Charlie Day) makes an appearance courtesy of a spooky chase sequence that looks like it was ripped straight out of Luigi’s Mansion!
Released in 2001, Luigi’s Mansion explored the spookier side of the Super Mario Bros. Universe, and it centered on Luigi exploring a haunted mansion and doing a little ghost-busting.
The game was followed by two sequels and later a Nintendo 3DS remake in 2018.
It’s entirely possibly the sequence teased in this first trailer is nothing more than a brief moment, but still it’s pretty cool to be getting those Luigi’s Mansion vibes from this one.
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more in the coming months.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie features a voice cast that also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, along with Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.
