Paramount and Skydance’s sci-fi movie The Tomorrow War is now available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, and I was personally delighted to discover over the weekend that it’s a hell of a good time. It’s big silly fun with a lot of heart, centered on a future war with aliens that citizens in the present are drafted into. And make no mistake, it’s a MONSTER MOVIE.
With great pacing, a variety of kickass set-pieces, and some of the coolest monsters we’ve seen in recent years, The Tomorrow War is one summer blockbuster that fully delivers.
Though the Chris Pratt-starring film doesn’t exactly end with the suggestion that a sequel would be possible, Deadline reports that early talks for a follow-up are already underway.
According to Deadline’s sources, “discussions are in place” to bring back director Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie), writer Zach Dean, and stars including Chris Pratt.
In the film, “The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.”
Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Edwin Hodge, Seychelle Gabriel, Alan Trong, Chibuikem Uche, Alexis Louder and Theo Von also star.
