One of several planned upcoming projects from “The Walking Dead” Universe is a Daryl/Carol spinoff series, but those plans have just come crashing down for AMC.
TV Line reports this week that Melissa McBride, who plays fan favorite Carol on “The Walking Dead,” has exited the series, which will now focus entirely on Daryl Dixon.
The site notes in their report today, “Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that Melissa McBride will no longer be involved in the offshoot. Instead, the new series will focus entirely on Daryl. We’re told the decision to jettison Carol was purely a creative one.”
Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier are two beloved “Walking Dead” originals who have long shared a compelling relationship, so this is sure to be a bummer for longtime fans of the duo.
McBride has been playing Carol Peletier on the main series for over 10 years now, completely transforming the character into one of the best in the history of the popular series.
On the plus side, Norman Reedus‘s Daryl Dixon will now be getting a “Walking Dead” spinoff series of his own. We’ll report more on the Daryl solo series as we learn it.
Other spinoff projects currently in the works from AMC include anthology series “Tales of the Walking Dead” and the New York City-set “Isle of the Dead” spinoff series.
