Out of Darkness Trailer - The Origin review

First up, Stone Age horrors will be unleashed in Out of Darkness, which had previously been titled The Origin. Bleecker Street brings the film to theaters on Friday, February 9.

We’ve been told, “It’s a tense, emotional, and incredibly crafted film; so much creativity went into making the paleolithic world – including the entire language spoken in the film, which was created specifically for this by a linguist and an archaeologist.”

In the film, “A small boat reaches the shores of a raw and desolate landscape. A group of six have struggled across the narrow sea to find a new home. They are starving, desperate, and living 45,000 years ago. First they must find shelter, and they strike out across the tundra wastes towards the distant mountains that promise the abundant caves they need to survive. But when night falls, anticipation turns to fear and doubt as they realize they are not alone.”

Safia Oakley-Green (“Sherwood”), Chuku Modu (“Captain Marvel”), Kit Young (“Shadow and Bone”), Iola Evans (“Choose or Die”), Luna Mwezi (“Needle Park Baby”), and Arno Luening (“Divine Comedy”) star alongside Rosebud Melarkey and Tyrell Mhlanga.

Andrew Cumming directed for Sony Pictures’ Stage 6. Ruth Greenberg (Run) wrote the script, while Oliver Kassman (Saint Maud) produced the horror film.

The next SCREAMBOX Original that Bloody Disgusting will be bringing to the table is the pro-wrestling themed horror movie Here for Blood, which will release in theaters, on digital, and streaming exclusively on SCREAMBOX just in time for Valentine’s Day, on February 9.

Directed by Daniel TurresHere for Blood follows a down-on-his-luck wrestler (Shawn Roberts; Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil films) and his girlfriend (Joelle Farrow) who are having a hard time making ends meet. When his girlfriend finds herself overwhelmed by exams, muscle-bound wrestler Tom O’Bannon steps in to cover one of her babysitting gigs.

But his chill night of junk food and video games quickly takes a turn for the cult-ish when the home is invaded by a gang of mask-wearing maniacs. Isolated and unprepared, Tom, his girlfriend, and a precocious 10-year-old must survive the night by any means necessary.

Written by James Roberts, the film also stars Twisted Sister legend Dee Snider, Maya Misaljevic (“The Boys”), Tara Spencer-Nairn (“Ghosts”) and Michael Therriault (“Reign”).

Lisa Frankenstein review

The throwback horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein hopes to worm its way into your heart this coming Valentine’s Day, and it’s shambling its way into theaters on Friday, February 9.

In the pages of Fangoria #22Lisa Frankenstein writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) notes that the upcoming horror-comedy is inspired by 1980s movies including Weird ScienceBeetlejuice and Night of the Comet, calling the film a “paranormal love story.” Cody goes on to say about the film, “I think it captures the simpler vibe of that time.”

Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) are leading the cast for Focus Features, and the film is rated “PG-13” for “bloody images and sexual material.”

Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room) also star.

In Lisa Frankenstein, “Set in 1989, the film follows an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”

Zelda Williams directed the horror-comedy.

Shudder is also bringing a brand new horror movie to the table this week, with the Shudder Exclusive Skeletons in the Closet debuting only on their streaming service this Friday.

In the film, “Haunted by a malevolent spirit since childhood, a desperate mother allows herself to become possessed in order to save the life of her terminally ill daughter.”

Terrence Howard (Iron Man) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire) star.

Skeletons in the Closet was directed by Asif Akbar.
