This week isn’t loaded up with new horror releases like previous weeks, but there are still three brand new original horror movies coming this week, and they’ll all be available at home. We’re also getting a new survival thriller starring Naomi Watts, but that’s only in theaters.
Of course, we should also remind that both Iris K. Shim’s Umma and Ti West’s X are both currently playing in theaters, so if you feel comfortable doing so, get out and support them!
Here’s all the new horror releasing March 22-27, 2022.
First up, Well Go USA has released the time loop horror movie 6:45 today (watch a bloody exclusive clip here), which you’ll find on your favorite VOD platform as of this morning.
What if one of the best days of your life suddenly turned into your very worst nightmare? And what if you were forced to relive that same day again and again?
Groundhog Day meets The Sixth Sense in Director Craig Singer’s (Animal Room, Dark Ride, A Good Night to Die) horror-thriller 6:45, debuting on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD today.
“A couple embarks on a weekend getaway only to find the island curiously deserted. After stumbling upon the town’s dark secret, they trigger a time loop, forcing them to relive a demented cycle of terror with seemingly no means of escape.”
6:45 stars Michael Reed (Brides of Satan), Augie Duke (The Amityville Moon), Armen Garo (“Dexter: New Blood”), and Thomas G. Waites (The Thing, Money Train).
The other new horror release for today is Deep Hatred, available on VOD and Digital.
In the film, “Cindy returns to her family home after the death of her father and soon realizes that the house holds a terrible secret that puts her and her friends in danger.”
Daniela Carvalho and Ale McHaddo directed Deep Hatred, which stars Sara Drust (Mind Thief), Evan Judson, and Jeremy Sless (Operation Varsity Blues).
We jump to Friday, March 25th for these next two releases, kicking off with the Irish folk horror movie You Are Not My Mother, available via at-home VOD this Friday.
This one comes from Magnet Releasing and director Kate Dolan.
“It’s the week before Halloween. Char’s bedridden mother, Angela, has mysteriously gone missing. All that remains is her abandoned car parked in the middle of a field. When Angela returns home to their North Dublin estate the following evening without explanation, it becomes clear to Char and her grandmother, Rita, that something is amiss. She might look and sound the same, but Angela’s behavior has become increasingly erratic and frightening, as if she has been replaced by a malevolent force.
“As Halloween approaches, a night steeped in ancient Irish myth and legend, Char must unearth the dark secrets of her family in order to uncover the truth behind her mother’s disappearance and save her, even if it means potentially losing her forever.”
Dolan’s feature debut premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. Our own Joe Lipsett reviewed the film out of the fest, calling the Halloween-set folk horror “an assured, confident and exciting debut.”
You Are Not My Mother stars Hazel Doupe and Carolyn Bracken. Watch the trailer below.
And finally, Naomi Watts (The Ring) stars in the survival thriller Infinite Storm, directed by Małgorzata Szumowska. Infinite Storm opens only in theaters on Friday, March 25.
“As an experienced climber (Naomi Watts) ascends Mt. Washington, she turns back before she reaches the summit as a huge blizzard approaches. But on her way down, she encounters a lone, stranded man, and takes it upon herself to get them both down the mountain before nightfall arrives and they succumb to the storm. Infinite Storm is based on a true story.”
Billy Howle, Denis O’Hare, and Parker Sawyers also star.
