After being in Early Access for over four years, 3D Realms and developer KillPixel have finally taken the wrappings off of WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, which is now available in full on PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store, complete with a 15% launch discount during the first week. Fans can expect updates on the console versions later in 2024.
The 1.0 release of WRATH introduces a new hub, three boss battles capping each episode, 3 new weapons, 4 new enemies, 2 new Sigils, and 5 new Artifacts. The game also now features a fully-implemented story. Alongside the new content, the 1.0 release features several updates and improvements, including a new tutorial introducing gameplay mechanics and the game’s world, alongside numerous tweaks to enemy AI and game performance.
“WRATH is a hardcore first-person shooter that ups the ante with a mix of dark fantasy, and blood-curdling horror,” says Frederik Schreiber, CEO of 3D Realms. “Powered by the Quake engine, fans will find a twisted adventure that blends old school-inspirations with modern tendencies. We’re excited to bring everything we’ve learned from Early Access into WRATH’s final product.”
The story for WRATH: Aeon of Ruin sees players awaken as the Outlander among the ruins of what was once The Old World. Following the guidance of a mysterious being known as the Shepherd of Wayward Souls, players begin the bloody mission of hunting down the remaining Guardians of the Old World. Mow down hordes of enemies with nine distinct weapons. You have at your disposal old-school favourites like the double-barreled shotgun, as well as new tools of destruction such as the Retcher, a bioweapon that transforms disgusting cysts into deadly projectiles.
